Ikea Bookcase Hack

When I first met my wife, she owned a house in West Palm Beach. The master bedroom had an awkward corner – made more complicated as it housed access to the controls for the house-wide, built-in stereo system. The bathroom was modern with a sleek Ikea vanity. Whatever storage solution we devised needed to match the proportions and surface material of the Ikea vanity cabinet.

Money was tight, so when this Ikea Kallax bookcase showed up on OfferUp, we were happy to pay $10 for the solution we needed. I added a kickplate to bring it level with the vanity top, cut down the sides and relocated the shelves before patching the scratches and chips.

We painted it white, then gave it five coats of gloss polyurethane for shine and durability. The match was perfect.
